About the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions:

Applicants for the current season of auditions must be within the following ages: 20-30 years old for all voice types. Your birth date must fall on or between August 1, 1986 and July 31, 1996 in order to be eligible to audition.

Applicants should demonstrate operatic potential and should have musical training and background. Applicants must be able to sing in more than one language and show artistic aptitude.

Citizens of the United States of America and Canada are eligible to audition. Foreign applicants must show proof of one year residence or proof of full time enrollment in a college or university in the United States or Canada.

District and Regional auditions require five arias in the original language and key. Selections should demonstrate contrasting musical styles as well as languages.


Oratorio, musical theater, or zarzuela are NOT permitted.

Applicants must first compete in the DISTRICT AUDITIONS

The finalists from each of the five districts compete in the REGIONAL AUDITIONS

The 1st place regional winner competes at the NATIONAL AUDITIONS
